Come play with knitted plaits! Whether you're a super beginner looking to learn something beyond K1, P1, or you're an experienced knitter who wants to bust out of a rut, this class is for you. A plaited stitch in knitting is a stitch that is twisted either clockwise or counterclockwise by manipulating the stitch mount. Plaited stitches can be used as allover patterns or as embellishments, and they create unique surface texture and depth.
In this hands-on in-studio class, you will learn several techniques for creating plaited stitch patterns in a single yarn color, including ribs, crossed stitches, braids, honeycombs, cables and zig-zags. We will discuss stitch mount (how the stitch lies on the needles) and you will learn several techniques for twisting stitches. We will also examine beautiful examples of plaited stitch projects for inspiration.
You should be able to proficiently cast on, knit and purl. We will provide instructions, an on-screen presentation, samples and lots of hands-on assistance. Please come prepared to think outside the stitch and be ready to learn something new...even when it might require pointing your needles toward Venus and holding your mouth right. Fair warning--playing with plaits is quite addictive and you will come away with a plethora of new project plans!
